We have been farming organically here in Sonoma County for the past 10 years. Organic farming is an ideal way to know exactly where your food comes from, how it’s grown, and that everything you’re growing contains ingredients that are good for your body and will enhance your overall wellbeing and health.

The seeds for the organic garden are sown in the greenhouse starting the first week of April. A month or two later, the starts are taken from the greenhouse and transplanted into the garden.

Our Favorite Produce To Grow:

  • Lettuce

  • Tomatoes

    - WE USE THE TOMATOES FOR OUR MORROCAN TOMATO JAM - A CUSTOMER FAVORITE

  • Plums

    - WE TAKE THESE TO PRESERVE FARMHOUSE KITCHEN TO MAKE OUR PLUM ELDERFLOWER JAM

  • Beets

  • Carrots

This year we are growing all of the above plus eggplant, Swiss chard, artichokes, peppers, peaches, watermelon, corn, basil and lots of other herbs. We count ourselves lucky because in Sonoma, all of these vegetables and fruits are so easy to grow organically.

Before putting the greenhouse starts in the ground, we rototill the winter cover crop into the soil and create beds. We add compost that we make here on the farm as a dressing on top and we pop the starts in.

One of our main crops is tomatoes and plums for the jams we produce for our Chateau Sonoma Pantry. Every year we harvest our plums for our Plum Elderflower Jam and tomatoes for our Moroccan Tomato Jam (a customer favorite!) We have to grow a lot of tomatoes this time of year, so we like to call on friends and family to help us in the garden. It’s much more enjoyable this way as it ends up to feel a lot less like work when you are surrounded and working side by side with the ones you love!

We are excited to share with you the bounty of the garden at our upcoming events. We will be hosting a Bastille Day Fête here at the farm on July 14th as well as our first Chateau Sonoma Self Care Day on July 27th. We will also be hosting a Harvest Party in September so stay tuned for that! We will be serving fresh meals that have been sourced from the garden for guests’ enjoyment and we look forward to everyone getting a taste of our farm fresh ingredients.

Hope to see you in the shop or at the farm soon!

AU REVOIR,

SARAH
